Matthew Oberlander
Matthew John Oberlander, born in San Gabriel, California, in 1982, has made a notable impact as a community leader, business owner, and pastor in Anchorage, Alaska. After enlisting in the U.S. Army at age 23, he was stationed at Fort Richardson, Alaska, where he served in both Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. Following an honorable discharge, Matt chose to make Anchorage his permanent home.
In 2012, he launched Top Shelf Tattoo Supply, becoming the first local provider for licensed tattoo artists in Anchorage. He later pursued higher education at Wayland Baptist University’s Anchorage campus, earning a degree in business management with a minor in Christian leadership and graduating magna cum laude in 2019. His journey into pastoral work began in 2016 as a church director at Heart of the City Church. When that church closed during the summer of 2020, Matt, his wife, and a group of founding families established Anchorage Cross and Anchor Church in 2021, where he continues to serve as lead pastor, fostering a close-knit and service-oriented community. For his dedication and achievements, he received Wayland Baptist University’s Distinguished Alumni Award in 2022, a testament to his leadership and impact in the Anchorage area.
Matt married Callan (Hendel) Oberlander in 2013, and together they have built a life rooted in faith, service, and community. They share a passion for fitness, outdoor adventures, and homesteading, raising animals on their small urban farm in East Anchorage. Their journey has included both joys and challenges, particularly in navigating the realities of military service and PTSD, but through it all, they have remained dedicated partners in life and ministry.

Debbie Pepper, Finance Secretary
My name is Debbie Pepper, and I have had the privilege of serving as the Finance Secretary for Anchorage Cross and Anchor Church since our church was founded. From the very beginning, it has been my joy to serve God and our church family through faithful stewardship, organization, and integrity.
In my role, I manage the financial and various administrative operations of the church, maintaining accurate records of offerings, donations, and expenses, and preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. I also produce clear and transparent reports for church leadership and ministries, helping ensure that every resource entrusted to (AC)² is used wisely to advance God’s mission.
Beyond finances, I coordinate the collection and deposit of church offerings, prepare annual giving statements for donors, and assist the Decision Makers Team in preparing the annual church budget. I also serve as the acting treasurer for the Street Reach Ministry, supporting outreach efforts that extend the love of Christ to our community.
Additionally, I help manage inventory and supplies, design event announcement slides, and provide support for our church database, Breeze. Whether working behind the scenes or alongside our amazing volunteers, my goal is always to serve with excellence, humility, and a cheerful heart.
Anchorage Cross and Anchor Church has been more than a place of service—it’s my spiritual home. I am grateful every day to play a part in what God is doing here and to see His faithfulness reflected in the generosity of His people.
“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”
